CHP Tells Participants, “You Go Girl!”
On April 5, 2012 CHP Oral Health Promotion Director Kathy Lituri, Lindzy Goodman DMD 14, and Tayo Odusanwo DMD 13 volunteered at Mother Caroline Academy, an all-girls school, grades 5-8, in Roxbury. As volunteers they presented a whole day of health and wellness called, “You Go Girl,” to the students.
Said Lituri, “We presented a lesson on oral health four times to four different groups of girls. We also played oral-health bingo, made tooth prints, and talked about dental careers.”
Goodman added, “The girls were curious about the length of school involved in becoming a dentist. Once we told them, they could not believe it. There was one young girl in particular who ecstatically proclaimed that she wanted to be a dentist despite the years of school that lay ahead of her.”
She continued, “The kids were very motivated to learn about bettering their health. They were not shy about asking relevant, detailed questions. They also loved the “Celebrity Smiles” game screaming ‘Justin Bieber’ when guessing the smiles.”
