Dr. Russell Giordano’s Expertise in Demand at ISO Meeting

Associate Professor and Director of Biomaterials Dr. Russell Giordano attended the International Standards Organization (ISO) Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, September 18-25. This year’s meeting was hosted by the American Dental Association (ADA).

Dr. Giordano had many important roles at the meeting. He served as the US expert on ceramics, representative for the working group developing CAD/CAM standards, and had additional responsibilities related to his roles as Chair of the working group on standards development for zirconia and Chair of the ADA working group on porcelain and metal–ceramic systems.

Dr. Giordano explained that much of his time at the meeting was spent discussing new standards for ceramic-ceramic compatibility. He also noted that, “A heated discussion addressed the proposed formation of a new group on CAD/CAM as well as a proposed standard for scanning accuracy of systems design for chair side and lab based systems.”
