GSDM Postdoctoral Programs Prepare for Accreditation

Last week Outlook This Week gave you an update on predoctoral accreditation activities that are taking place at GSDM. This week, we’d like to update you on the postdoctoral accreditation activities that will be taking place. The postdoctoral programs are accredited every seven years and this coincides with the DMD accreditation process, which will take place in September of 2012. The exception to this is Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, which is hospital-based and as such participates in an accreditation process every five years. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has an accreditation site visit coming up on October 18, 2011.

There is no single postdoctoral accreditation committee, rather the Office for Advanced Education and International Programs—which includes Associate Dean Thomas Kilgore,  Ms. Carole Loughran, and Ms. Liza Miller—in collaboration with the Division of Curriculum and Program Evaluation—in particular Postdoctoral Program Analyst Mr. Christian Sprang, and each individual postdoctoral program director and their appropriate program administrator are responsible for the publication of the accreditation self-study and all appendices related to each program.

This group will work to prepare the upcoming mock site visits which will take place on the following dates in 2011:

Orthodontic & Dentofacial Orthopedics: October 3

Pediatric Dentistry: November 10

AEGD: November 14

Dental Public Health: November 17

Endodontics: Date TBD

Periodontology & Oral Biology: December 5

A mock site visit for Prosthodontics is currently being arranged for January 2012.
