GSDM Hosts Visitors from FMMUSS

A delegation of three visitors traveled to GSDM from the Fourth Military Medical University School of Stomatology (FMMUSS) on September 14. This dental school is one of the schools of stomatology that Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter and Professor Laisheng Chou visited during their trip to China in February 2011. FMMUSS is located in Xi’an, China and is open to the public for medical and dental oral healthcare services. It has 280 patient treatment rooms and 144 hospital beds for oral and maxillofacial surgery patients. The school has more than 120 faculty members and the largest large-animal research center among all schools of stomatology in China. The school has also recently spent about $10 million for its research facility and equipment.

Dr. Chou—who acted as a liaison to the group—said, “This FMMUSS delegation led by Associate Dean Yiyang Li was sent by Dean Yimin Zhao of FMMUSS to visit GSDM as part of continuing efforts to extend the friendship and collaboration between two schools.”

He continued, “Dean Hutter and I were invited by Dean Yimin Zhao to visit FMMUSS on February 18, 2011. During the visit, Dean Hutter gave a one-hour presentation about GSDM education to the faculty and students of FMMUSS. Dean Hutter also expressed interest in observing the education and clinical activities and exploring the possibility of future collaborations under the principle of mutual interests and mutual benefits, as prescribed in our mission and applied strategic plan.”

The delegation of visitors included: Associate Dean Dr. Yiyang Li; Director, Department of Personnel Dr. Zhihong Wang; and Director, Department of Education and Research Administration Dr. Xu Ge. The group spent a half-day visiting GSDM where they had an official meeting with Dean Hutter, and visited the Simulation Learning Center, clinical teaching facilities, research facilities, classrooms, and the library.
