Research Runs the Gamut for APEX Presenters

Eleven DMD 14 students presented summaries of the research they completed during their eight-week APEX I research rotations at an event on August 12. This series of presentations is an annual event hosted by the Office of the Associate Dean for Research.

“This year’s predoctoral students’ research presentations were outstanding,” said Associate Dean for Research Maria Kukuruzinska. “They spanned a wide range of clinical, translational and basic science projects in the areas of epidemiology/public health, orthodontics, biomaterials, geriatrics, oral biology, stem cells, infection/inflammation, development and cell and molecular biology.”

Students completed these projects under the guidance of a wide group of faculty and staff mentors. After each student presented they fielded questions from the audience comprised of other students, staff, and faculty.

Dr. Kukuruzinska added, “The high quality of projects and oral presentations were a reflection of hard work and commitment on the part of students, as well as dedication to student mentoring by our faculty. We hope that these students will maintain their enthusiasm for the discovery of new knowledge and remain involved in research training throughout their dental education.”
