CHP Promotes Oral Health to Population with Psychiatric Disabilities

On July 6, CHP Oral Health Promotion Director Kathy Lituri led a group of students to the Center Club, a Program of Bay Cove Human Services. That day the Club was hosting a Dental Health Promotion Day. The group of volunteers— Joe Bousaba DMD 13, John Costandi DMD 12, Michael Donavan DMD 13, Michelle Holzinger DMD 13, and CHP intern Brian Mahoney—provided more than 30 screenings and a lot of one-on-one oral health education.

The Center Club, located in Boston’s North End, is the oldest and largest Clubhouse in New England for people with psychiatric disabilities. The five-day-a-week program combines employment, housing, and education services with social activities, wellness initiatives, and advocacy using a holistic approach that is highly empowering. About 50 to 100 adults participate in Center Club activities on a regular basis.
