Satelec® Acteon Group® Donates Piezotome 2

The Advanced Specialty Education Program in Periodontics received a donated Piezotome 2 unit for use in their Treatment Center. The donation is valued at $18,000 and is the third device generously donated by Satelec® Acteon Group® in the last three years. The first two devices—the Piezotome 1 and ImplantCenter, valued at $10,000 and $16,000 respectively—were donated to Director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program Dr. Serge Dibart , who then gave them to the department so the residents could use them.

The Piezotome 1 is a piezoelectric ultrasonic generator for pre-implant and periodontal surgery. The machine is designed for delicate procedures requiring very thin and precise incisions. Benefits include: soft tissue preservation, acute tactile sense (low vibrations), limited risk of membrane perforation, perfect visibility of operative field, haemostatic effect, less postoperative pain, and rapid healing. The Piezotome 2 is the second generation of this machine and is a very advanced piezoelectric knife, with added autoclavable LED technology. It also “cuts” bone three times faster than the Piezotome 1 and is very user-friendly.

Dr. Dibart was very pleased with the donation and believes the residents will benefit from having this new technology. He also explained how the machines have contributed to his research, “Over the past 3 years Satelec has been funding some of my research by donating these devices. What I have done is expand the scope of the piezoelectric knife and its applications through innovative new surgical minimally invasive procedures in periodontology and implantology, such as microsurgical crown lengthening in the esthetic zone and full sinus lifts through a microsurgical crestal opening.”

Dr. Dibart’s research findings will be available in his next book, due out this year, through Wiley-Blackwell. The book will be titled, “Practical Osseous Surgery in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry.”
