Bruce Spector Honored for Forty Years of Service

On December 15, Audio Visual Technician Bruce Spector was surprised with a celebration honoring his forty years of service to the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM). Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Cataldo Leone and Administrative Assistant Lori Fisher Davis—with the help of Spector’s wife, Edith, and other friends and colleagues—set up a surprise party for Bruce where lunch was served and fond memories were shared.

"Bruce has been a loyal member of the GSDM family for 40 years," said Dr. Leone. "He has been of invaluable help countless times to countless people over his long tenure here, always with a smile. We are humbled by his commitment to the Dental School and wanted to especially acknowledge and honor this outstanding individual."

Spector began working at GSDM in May of 1970 as a Biomedical Photographer. Prior to joining the staff he was enrolled in a 2-year course in Biomedical Photography at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. During the course he ended up working on photography-related projects for Dental School founder Dr. Henry M. Goldman in the Beth Israel Dental Clinic. Spector worked well with Dr. Goldman and also came to know Dr. Spencer Frankl, Dr. Morris Ruben, and Dr. Herbert Schilder from his time at Beth Israel so coming on board at the Dental School was a natural fit.

Since 1970, he has worked closely with many faculty and staff members, and with all three Deans of GSDM. He has also gotten to know the Medical Campus inside and out, having had offices located all over the Campus, including his first which were darkrooms for developing film. He has also managed the audio visual needs of the School from day one and has seen technology become increasingly more sophisticated. Spector’s wife, Edith, has also worked at the School for close to two decades as a Sterilization Assistant. Spector jokes warmly that they are, "creatures of habit."

"We are so happy to have Bruce as a part of the GSDM community for forty years," said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. "I hope that he stays for forty more! He is such a dedicated worker and his photography and audio visual expertise is appreciated by all."
