OMFS Holds 3rd Annual Donald F. Booth Education & Return to Residency Day

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) held its 3rd Annual Donald F. Booth Education & Return to Residency Day on April 7, in the Hiebert Lounge. More than 60 alumni and friends returned for a day of education and camaraderie.
The event kicked off with Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter’s opening remarks and greetings followed by official introductions. Alumni as far back as 1974 were in attendance as were OMFS Professor Emeritus Dr. Donald F. Booth and OMFS Professor Emeritus and former Director of the Department of Dentistry & OMFS at Boston Medical Center Dr. Philip L. Maloney.
The featured speaker was Assistant Professor & Director of OMFS Training & the Microvascular Fellowship Program at the University of Florida Rui Fernandes DMD 97. Dr. Fernandes was overjoyed to return to GSDM after many years. He toured the School and its facilities and met many of his clinical and research mentors whom he had closely worked with during his predoctoral education. He delivered outstanding presentations titled, “Contemporary Concepts in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery,” and, “Flaps in Head and Neck Reconstruction,” which captivated the audience.
The second half of the educational meeting included the following scientific presentations by the residents of the OMFS program:
- Brandon Meier OMFS 11: “Reasons for Infection in Mandibular Fracture Treatment”
- Abhishek Mogre DMD 06, OMFS 11: “Mandibular Osteomyelitis: Analysis of Treatment Outcomes”
- Mohammed Nadershah OMFS 11: “Use of Selective Embolization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery”
