AAWD Returns to Rosie’s Place

The Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) chapter of the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD), in cooperation with Division of Community Health Programs (CHP) Oral Health Promotion Director Kathy Lituri, held a fun and interactive dental health fair for children at Rosie’s Place on February 18. This event was part of the Rosie’s Place Childworks Program, which took place during Massachusetts School Vacation Week.

Rosie’s Place is a sanctuary for poor and homeless women located in Boston’s South End. GSDM has been volunteering at Rosie’s Place for several years.

"On behalf of the board, staff, and guests here at Rosie’s Place thank you so much for taking the time out for the Dental Fair," said Childworks Coordinator Nicole Williams in a letter to Lituri. "Rosie’s Place relies on the thoughtfulness and generosity of individuals like you and your students, whose support makes such a difference in our community."

At this event GSDM’s outreach efforts included the popular dental passports format where children visit stations to learn about a different aspect of dental health. After visiting each station, children receive a sticker on their passport and once they collect them all they’re given a goodie bag filled with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and games.
