GSDM Sets Sail for Success at Alpha Omega Convention

On December 27, more than 450 members of the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity (AO) and their families set sail aboard the Carnival Valor for a seven-day Caribbean cruise and the 102nd Convention of the AO. Among the attendees were GSDM second-year DMD students Matthew Rossen and Shawn Groyeski, who served as delegates from the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) chapter of AO.
As delegates the pair voted on issues during business meetings; attended a continuing education program presented by leaders in the field of dental medicine—including GSDM alum David Schneider DMD 81, PERIO 83; and networked with other students and AO alums.
This was Rossen’s second time attending an AO Convention and he said, "As my second convention experience, I saw friends from last year’s convention held in Scottsdale, Arizona and made new friends with both dental students and alumni from all over the world."
The Convention was a great success for many of the GSDM representatives in attendance. Rossen was elected as one of two International Student Representatives for 2010, Dr. Schneider was elected International Treasurer, and S. Murray Miller ORTHO 83 received the Meritorious Service Award for 2009. This award is given annually to an Alpha Omegan who has shown outstanding and exemplary service over a 10-year period.
"Congratulations to both our current and past students on the recognition they received at the Alpha Omega 102nd Convention," said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. "I am pleased to see members of the GSDM community take such an active role in the educational and philanthropic pursuits of this established and respected organization."
