Dr. Paul Farsai Invited to Join ADA Critical Review Panel

On July 29, Associate Professor Dr. Paul Farsai accepted an invitation by the American Dental Association (ADA) to join their Critical Review Panel (CRP).

Earlier this year the ADA launched an Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) website, with one of the main features being a database of systematic reviews and critical summaries. A critical summary is a synopsis of a systematic review, 600 to 800 words in length, that includes a structured abstract and a commentary. This commentary provides practical information on applying the results of the systematic review into clinical practice.

CRPs along with ADA Evidence Reviewers (AER) collaborated on the development of the website and now the primary role of the CRP is to mentor the AERs, review critical summaries, instruct new AERs at workshops, and update the database of systematic reviews. Current CRP members include leaders in the field of dental medicine.

“I’m glad that the ADA has asked me to be part of this process of mentoring others to write critical reviews of scientific dental articles," said Dr. Farsai. "The fact that they publish these summaries in JADA and post them on the newly launched ADA EBD website is a testament of how important it is to act and practice on evidence, and it’s a long time coming so I’m happy to participate in this endeavor.”

"On behalf of the entire GSDM community I congratulate Dr. Farsai on this honor," said Dean Jeffrey Hutter. "It is wonderful to see his expertise in evidence-based dentistry recognized by his peers at the American Dental Association."
