DCEP Seeks Full Participation for Survey on Ethics and Values

The Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Dean’s Council on Ethics and Professionalism (DCEP) has been working with The Institute for Global Ethics® (IGE) to set objectives and conduct a preliminary audit of the culture of ethics and professionalism at our School. The DCEP was assembled by Dean Jeffrey Hutter and is currently led by Chair Dr. Carl McManama. Their purpose is to ensure that faculty, staff, and students are fully engaged in a culture of ethics and professionalism.
The DCEP has determined that the next and critical step is to invite input from each and every member of GSDM. All students, faculty, staff, and administrators must participate in this process by taking a brief and anonymous online survey. The survey is posted here: Survey on Ethics and Values.
Once the data is collected and analyzed, DCEP will work to develop a Code of Ethics and Conduct and will facilitate Ethical Fitness® training for all students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Throughout each year DCEP will conduct follow-up activities to reinforce this Code and to train incoming students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
Dean Hutter will be attempting to meet in person with each DMD, AS, and Postdoctoral class to personally explain this process and the importance of their participation.
"I firmly believe that this process will establish GSDM as a proactive trailblazer in this emerging and important issue in dental education and patient treatment," added Dean Hutter. "I believe it will increase the value and reputation of our School; allow us to graduate more ethical and competent dentists; improve patient experiences; and make all of our jobs more rewarding."
