GSDM Presents Wide Range of Research at IADR General Session

The 87th General Session of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) was held in Miami, Florida from April 1 to April 4. This meeting is hosted jointly by the IADR, American Association for Dental Research (AADR), and Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR). This is the leading scientific meeting for the oral, craniofacial, and dental research industry.
Numerous members of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) traveled to the event to present posters, lecture, and learn about the latest developments in the oral, craniofacial, and dental research industry. More than 3,500 abstracts from around the world were submitted for consideration and approximately 25% of those became oral presentations and the remainder were presented in poster format. More than 100 abstracts from GSDM were selected for oral and poster presentations.
One presented abstract by Assistant Professor Dr. Hatice Hasturk titled, "Resolvin D1 a Novel Docosahexaenoic Acid-Derived Mediator Resolves Experimental Periodontitis," received press coverage following the event and another by Moira Sinnott DMD 12 was awarded the IADR Behavioral, Epidemiological & Health Services Research Outstanding Predoctoral Student Abstract Award. Sinnott’s abstract was titled, "Low Income Children Have Poor Oral Health-Related Quality of Life," and she worked on this research with Professor and Assistant Dean for Community Partnerships and Extramural Affairs Dr. Michelle Henshaw, Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Health Services Research Dr. Raul Garcia, Professor and Chair of General Dentistry Dr. Judith Jones, and Director of Policy at Delta Dental of Massachusetts Mike Monopoli.
Also during the Annual Meeting, Assistant Professor Dr. Alpdogan Kantarci was elected Secretary of the Periodontal Research Group for the 2009-2010 term.
"The contributions of the GSDM faculty and students to the most recent IADR General Session were very impressive," said Dean Jeffrey Hutter.
