GSDM Cares For Local Community

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) dental students led by Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Mahdi Bouhmadouche volunteered at a community health fair on March 24. The health fair was part of Cathedral Cares, a nursing outreach program for parishioners and neighbors living in the urban communities surrounding the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston’s South End. Cathedral Cares is funded and supported by the Boston Area Order of Malta and the Cathedral of the Holy Cross Parish.

Cathedral parish nurse Lynn Finn and GSDM Clinical Instructor Dr. Joseph Nore (who was not able to attend) organized the day’s events, which included dental screenings and eye exams. This was the first time Cathedral Cares put on a health fair of this type and they attracted 28 patients, 15 of whom received dental screenings.

"The Cathedral of the Holy Cross is part of our Dental School’s local community, which is why it’s important for us to give back to their parishioners and neighbors," said Dr. Bouhmadouche. "I was honored to represent the School at this event and very proud of the dental student volunteers, who generously donated their time and skills on a Saturday to help their neighbors."
