Recycling Initiative Kicks Off at BUMC

A new recycling initiative is being introduced to the schools on the Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC) by the BUMC Sustainability Committee. The Committee operates under Associate Vice President for Financial & Business Affairs William Gasper and is chaired by Housing Resource Manager David Rini.
As part of this initiative recycling bins have been placed in the G building at 100 East Newton Street on all levels with the exception of the first floor. The bins are located near the back stairways, in the vicinity of the washrooms. This strategic location will enable people to rinse and drain beverage containers to ensure clean, dry recycling. These recycling bins are for mixed recyclables (clean paper, as well as plastic, glass, steel and aluminum containers). Instructions have been placed at the bin locations which explain what may and may not be recycled. Please note that rubber gloves and yellow protective gowns may not be placed in the recycling bins.
When the bins are full they will be replaced by Facilities staff. Facilities staff are not responsible for emptying any small recycling containers in individual offices. If you wish to collect your recyclables in a small container please be sure to empty it into the larger bin on a regular basis and ensure that confidential records are shredded prior to being placed in a recycling bin. If a bin is not in place in your area, your floor liaison should contact Linda Reed.
"Recycling is one of many efforts we can make as we strive for sustainability," said Reed. "Using less paper, buying supplies made with recycled material, using washable coffee cups, turning off lights and computer monitors, and dressing appropriately for the season are all ways we can help."
