New DMDs Spend First Week at BUGSDM

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) welcomed 115 new DMD students and 75 new Advanced Standing students to campus July 28 to begin a weeklong orientation.
Students met and mingled with their new faculty at lunch the first day, where Dean ad interim Jeffrey Hutter welcomed the new class.
"We love to see all the smiles on your faces and our goal is for you to have those same smiles when you receive your diplomas in 2010 and 2012," Dr. Hutter told students.
Dr. Hutter offered advice for how to approach their BUGSDM education. "Take time to smell the roses," he said. "Spend time with family and friends and enjoy all the city has to offer. But keep in mind, the more you put into your education, the more you will take away."
Later that day, students took a break from the heat at an ice cream social hosted by the BUGSDM Alumni Association with help from the Office of Admissions. Alumni Craig Allen and Nicole Paquette-Allen, both DMD 95, made the event possible for the second consecutive year with a donation.
Both incoming Alumni Board President Shadi Daher DMD 90 OMFS 94 and outgoing President Joseph Calabrese DMD 91 AEGD 92 attended to meet the new students.
Representatives from student groups and local companies and organizations set up information booths for students.
Students ended the week by taking the Oath of the DMD Class of 2012 and Advanced Standing Program Class of 2010 at BUGSDM’s Professional Ceremony followed by a welcoming BBQ for students and their families on the Talbot Green.
