Dr. Carlos Hirschberg Attends Academy of Sciences of Chile Induction

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology Carlos B. Hirschberg attended the incorporation of his former postdoctoral student (1986-1988), Dr. Enrique Brandan, into the Academy of Sciences of Chile on May 28. Dr. Hirschberg taught and mentored Dr. Brandan at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester, prior to joining the faculty at BUGSDM.
Dr. Brandan is a former Howard Hughes International Research Scholar and currently serves as Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC). While in Chile, Dr. Hirschberg also gave a lecture at PUC titled, Novel Regulation of Posttranslational Modifications in the Golgi Apparatus: From Basic Science to Diseases.
"It was an honor to be invited to share in Dr. Brandan’s achievement," said Dr. Hirschberg. "Incorporation into the Academy of Sciences of Chile is commendable accomplishment and I am proud to have served as his teacher and mentor."
