Dr. John Samuelson Invited to Join Pathogenic Eukaryotes Study Section of NIH

Dr. John Samuelson, professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) and professor of Microbiology at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) has been invited to join, as a charter member, the Pathogenic Eukaryotes study section of National Institutes of Health (NIH) for a four year term. The primary function of the Pathogenic Eukaryotes Study Section is to review grant applications involving protozoal, helminthic, and fungal pathogens in humans and animal models.
Dr. Samuelson has been an ad-hoc member of the study section for the last two years. He is honored to be selected as a charter member and said, "Peer review is an important aspect of the NIH. Serving as a member of the study section is fun, but it is also a significant responsibility."
Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at BUGSDM Dr. Carlos Hirschberg believes Dr. Samuelson will make a great addition to the study section.
"Since Dr. Samuelson’s arrival at BUGSDM, he has made major research contributions," said Dr. Hirschberg. "His group, together with BUGSDM Molecular and Cell Biology Professor Phil Robbins and Boston University Biomedical Engineering Professor Temple Smith, has discovered new pathways in protein glycosylation and protein folding quality control in lower eukaryotes."
