AEGD Lecture Gives Alumni and Residents a Chance to Connect

On Thursday, April 3, the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials hosted a continuing education lecture and Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) alumni reunion at One Sherborn Street. Alum and former faculty member, Yuri Shamritsky DMD 91, ENDO 94, gave a lecture titled "When Endodontics fail…," which was well received by the audience of 80, including AEGD residents, alumni, faculty, and vendors. Dr. Shamritsky served as an assistant clinical professor of Endodontics at BUGSDM from 1994 to 2003.

In addition to the lecture, the event featured dinner and the opportunity for AEGD residents to connect with AEGD alumni. One of the most notable reunions was for Kirk Kalogiannis DMD 91, AEGD 92 and Shadi Abedin AEGD 08. Dr. Kalogiannis is a clinical associate professor of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at New York University College of Dentistry and was Abedin’s former teacher at NYU. Abedin was referred to BUGSDM and the AEGD program by Dr. Kalogiannis.

“Dr. Kalogiannis raved about his experience in the AEGD program,” said Abedin.  “For me, the program has been a great experience and I am very happy with my decision to come to Boston.”

"This event was a great chance for AEGD alumni to come together and also for current residents to establish a network of people that can enhance their professional development," said AEGD Director John Cassis PROS 86, DMD 88. "The event was well attended and the alumni really seemed to enjoy seeing how the AEGD program has evolved and recalling fond memories of their time at BUGSDM with one another."
