ADA Foundation Awards Scholarships

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) students, Stefanie Sunnes DMD 10 and Ismael Montane DMD 10 were both awarded a $2,500 Minority Dental Scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic year by the ADA Foundation. These scholarships are given annually to outstanding second-year students who are identified as being underrepresented in dental school enrollment.
"Receiving this scholarship is an honor," said Dean ad interim Dr. Jeffrey Hutter. "Stefanie and Ismael are very deserving of this accolade and on behalf of the entire BUGSDM community, I congratulate them."
Sunnes originally hails from Corbett, Oregon, but has fallen in love with the east coast since coming to BUGSDM. She hopes to work in an underserved area after graduation, possibly somewhere in New Hampshire. She is an active member of both the Vietnamese Student Dental Association (VSDA) and the Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA).
Montane was born and raised in Miami, Florida and selected BUGSDM for dental school because of all it had to offer, as well as the fact that the Boston location gave him the opportunity to experience living in another area of the United States. He is also an active member of the HSDA.
"I am honored to receive this scholarship," said Montane, "Dental school is expensive and this award will help me out with school-related costs."
The ADA Foundation’s Minority Dental Student Scholarship Program is funded in part by Harry J. Bosworth Company, Colgate-Palmolive, Proctor & Gamble, and Sunstar Americas.
