DMD 3 Orientation Eases Transition to Treatment Center

August 9 marked the introduction of BUSDM’s new DMD 3 orientation for predoctoral students starting to work in the patient treatment centers this year. The event serves as a supplement to in-class instruction on working in the treatment center, allowing students to see hand-on demonstrations and ask staff and faculty questions.

"The staff at BUSDM wants to make sure students feel confident as they enter the treatment center and the last phase of their predoctoral dental education, completing direct patient care under faculty supervision," says Clinical Administrative Manager Carolyn Mills, who helped plan the event.

Students rotated between three stations where the learned about front desk and treatment center operations, working in the treatment center, and mentorship and the Student Performance System (SPS). An additional While You Are Waiting station gave students the option to ask about the Ryan White Fund, Schedule Anywhere, and other school programs and services.

"This orientation is something a lot of students hoped we would have," says Martin Greenberg DMD 09. "It’s very helpful and should ease the transition into the treatment center."
