Commencement Speakers Urge Class of 2007 to “Make a Difference”

BUSDM honored 264 new graduates who received DMD and advanced degrees at the school’s 43rd commencement May 20 at BU’s Fitness and Recreation Center. The graduates included those receiving degrees in January 2007, at commencement, and upon completion of their programs this September.
"Today, you men and women gathered here, are receiving diplomas and certificates indicative of your work and achievement," said BUSDM Dean Spencer N. Frankl. "You are all now considered to be professional members of a responsible and honored profession."
Dr. Mark Feldman, president-elect of the American Dental Association and 2007 commencement speaker highlighted the leadership potential of the graduating class. "You can be partners in a special moment in time that clearly makes the difference between collective inaction and a united force for positive action," Feldman said. "You have, within you, the collective power to shape, even create, the future for our profession."
Senior Associate Dean Dr. Jeffrey Hutter advised students to give back to their communities and their profession, objectives important to the school’s mission. "You now hold a highly regarded responsibility to your chosen field – to participate, to be active and to be attentive. Use your knowledge and experience to stay involved and keenly aware of the issues and obstacles affecting your patients and health care in general.”
Dr. Hutter added, "Cherish your education and your profession and measure success not by the amount of money you earn, but rather by the contribution you make to your family, profession, patients and community.”
