New Intensive Research Program to Allow for In-Depth Research Opportunities

Second-year BUSDM students interested in gaining in-depth research experience through APEX can apply for the school’s new Intensive Research Program this fall. The program will allow students to spend the majority of time during the APEX II rotation doing research.

The Predoctoral Research Program and the Offices of Academic Affairs and Extramural Affairs created the program "to expose dental students to the excitement and rigor of scientific discovery through an in-depth research training," says Afaf Hourani, manager of science information.

"Because of the tremendous progress in the biomedical sciences and technology, it has become imperative for dental students to develop critical thinking skills and to learn how new knowledge impacts the practice of dental medicine," she says.

The school will select two students to participate in the program each year. Students who participated in research during the APEX I rotation, demonstrated professionalism, and are in good academic standing are eligible. Applications are due September 15 for the January-March APEX II rotation.
