BUASDA Wins Top Honors at Annual Session

Dental student representatives from across the country gathered Labor Day weekend in Houston, Texas, for the 35th American Student Dental Association (ASDA) Annual Session. BUSDM’s ASDA chapter was honored for Outstanding Advocacy at the session’s Ideal ASDA Award Luncheon. The award recognizes the 2004-2005 achievements of BUASDA in advocating for and representing students at the dental school.
“The award acknowledges our innovative new student orientation CD-ROM, ‘First Impressions,’” says David Blackburn DMD 06, BUASDA first delegate, “It also recognizes our student events such as the ASDA Clinic Orientation and our efforts at National Dental Student Lobby Day, where we advocated for legislation on student loan interest rate deductions and loan consolidation.”
BUASDA sent six representatives to the weekend meeting to vote in the ASDA House of Delegates: Chrys Constantinou DMD 08, Leon Yu DMD 07, David Blackburn DMD 06, Joanna Ayala DMD 07, Elisa Sin DMD 07, and Britt Soden DMD 06. Delegates voted on resolutions in the House of Delegates and elected the national ASDA 2005-2006 Executive Committee.
Two BUASDA members recently were elected to national ASDA positions by the ASDA Board of Trustees: Elisa Sin DMD 07 was elected Consultant on Membership and Britt Soden DMD 06 as the ADPAC (ASDA’s political action committee) Representative.
