Guarente Pledges to Listen and Learn as New Leader of the GDT Center
As the new leader of the General Dentistry Treatment Centers, Assistant Dean for Patient Services John Guarente has pledged to listen and learn from faculty and students. Dean Frankl announced Guarente’s appointment during two lunchtime meetings of the Department of General Dentistry July 25. BUSDM faculty who were not able to attend may watch one of the meetings here.
In his new role Guarente will foster a structured, disciplined, and collegial environment for students, faculty, patients, and staff. He will also work to strengthen the mentor program, streamline the patient care process, improve the patient recall process, and open the communication system in a respectful manner.
"As a general dentist in private practice, John understands the world we are preparing students for during their clinical education years," says Frankl. "The Treatment Center is a large and complex operation, and it’s clear faculty need a single point of contact for operational issues. This change will bring decision-making closer to where the issues may arise."
Guarente is excited by the challenge. "The tough work has already been done," he says. "We have good faculty members. We have plenty of patients. We have plenty of providers. I see my role as making these important elements mesh."
