Dr. Mark Ferriero, clinical associate professor in the Department of General Dentistry, received a mastership degree (MAGD) August 5 at the Academy of General Dentistry’s (AGD) annual meeting in Denver.

The mastership degree represents Ferriero’s commitment to lifelong learning, a mission important to both the AGD and BUSDM.

“My charge as a master is to share the importance to our profession and patients of lifelong dental education and the commitment to providing superior, state-of-the-art, dental care to all,” Ferriero says.

To earn his degree, Ferriero completed 600 continuing education credits beyond the requirements of the fellowship degree, which asks a dentist to be an AGD member for three consecutive years, earn 500 continuing education credits, and pass a 400-question test.

Ferriero, who joined the AGD 21 years ago, received a fellowship degree from the organization at the 2000 annual meeting in Toronto.

Ferriero came to BUSDM eight years ago as clinical assistant professor and became clinical associate professor in November 2005. He has taught at Georgetown University, where he graduated dental school in 1986, and Cape Cod Community College. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society and Delta Sigma Delta Professional Dental Fraternity.
