BUVSDA Election Results Announced

Boston University Vietnamese Student Dental Association (BUVSDA) announced new officers this week after holding elections in mid August. The new board includes President Nam Phan DMD 09, Vice President Lanchi Pham DMD 08, Secretary Ada Sibrian DMD 09, and Treasurer Ann Ly DMD 09.

More than 20 BUSDM students are members of the group this year. Dr. Franson Tom, clinical assistant professor in the Department of General Dentistry, serves as the faculty advisor.

"Our mission is to get more involved in the community," says Phan. "In addition, we want to promote dental awareness and provide leadership to underclassmen."

BUVSDA is planning a Big Brothers/Big Sisters pot luck Saturday, September 9. First-year DMD students will be assigned a group that includes a second-, third-, and fourth-year DMD student who will offer advice on the experiences of each year of dental school. The group is planning a clothing drive to benefit Rosie’s Place in November.

BUVSDA is part of the Division of Community Health Program‘s Vietnamese-American Civic Association project, through which BUVSDA members visit Vietnamese elders in the community every two months to talk about maintaining good oral health.

Any BUSDM student can join BUVSDA. To learn more about becoming a member, contact Nam Phan.
