William Longley

I am a physicist studying the geospace environment and its impacts on spacecraft. As a Ph.D. student I am working on coupling small scale particle-in-cell simulations of ionospheric plasma instabilities with large scale, global MHD simulations of the Earth’s magnetosphere. I am also simulating the effects of electron-ion and electron-electron collisions on spectra measured from equatorial incoherent scatter radars. Previously I received my M.S. while researching asymmetries in Magnetosphere-Ionosphere coupling using simultaneous imaging of the aurora in both hemispheres during a geomagnetic storm. (source)

Research Interests: Magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, PIC simulations of plasmas, Collisional plasmas, Space weather.
