Jiawei Gao

Postdoctoral Associate

Dr. Jiawei Gao is currently a Postdoctoral Associate at the Center for Space Physics at Boston University, where he joined in May 2025. Prior to joining Boston University, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received his B.S. degree from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) in 2016 and his Ph.D. in Space Physics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2022. His research focuses on the space environments of Venus and Mars, particularly the interactions between the solar wind and induced magnetosphere.

Current research interests:

  • Investigating magnetic field, plasma dynamics, and atmospheric escape processes using observations from MAVEN and Venus Express.
  • Developing machine learning models of the Martian induced magnetosphere to study planetary ion escape.
