Center for Space Physics Statement on Racism

The undersigned members Center for Space Physics wish to state unequivocally their opposition to the recent and ongoing acts of violence inflicted on Black Americans and people of color. Our society and scientific communities must be free of racism in all its forms, and we acknowledge that too often we have fallen short of this goal. We also acknowledge we need to increase dramatically our efforts to combat the underrepresentation of Black and historically marginalized people within our scientific fields.   We need to take new and concrete actions to build a welcoming, open, and supportive scientific community.  We need to commit to actively fighting racism and reversing the legacy of centuries of racism.   Planning is underway for the center to expand our outreach and recruitment programs for underrepresented minority individuals and groups.  Further, we endorse the statements on these issues by Boston University President Robert Brown, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Stan Sclaroff, and our professional scientific societies: the American Geophysical Union and the American Astronomical Society.
