Speakers & Honorees
Actor Emily Deschanel (CFA ’98) delivered Boston University’s 152nd Commencement Address during the All-University Commencement ceremony where she was awarded an honorary degree. Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton, Resident Bishop of the United Methodist Church New Hope Episcopal Area and current BU Trustee, delivered the Baccalaureate Address earlier in the day at Marsh Chapel.
In additional to Deschanel, honorary degrees were also awarded to: Dr. Sheri Fink, Pulitzer Prize winning health, science, and medicine investigative journalist; Sheldon Lee Glashow, BU Professor Emeritus of Physics and 1979 Nobel laureate in physics; the Honorable Rebeca Martinez (LAW ’92), chief justice of the Texas Fourth Court of Appeals; and Dominic Moulden, resource organizer and initiator of The Elephant Free School.
The recipients of the Metcalf Cup & Prize and Metcalf Award for Excellence in Teaching were presented their awards during the Commencement exercises. Wheelock College of Education & Human Development Clinical Associate Professor Tina Durand was the recipient of the 2025 Metcalf Cup & Prize, and Michelle Sullivan, College of Communication Professor of the Practice, was the recipient of the Metcalf Award.
