Speakers & Honorees
Robert Woodward, investigative journalist and associate editor of The Washington Post, delivered Boston University’s 149th Commencement Address during the ceremony on Nickerson Field. Marylou Sudders, Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services and BU graduate, delivered the Baccalaureate Address earlier in the day at Marsh Chapel. Both received honorary degrees.
Others who received honorary degrees were: Gay J. McDougall, international human rights advocate, and Richard Shipley, president of the Shipley Foundation, BU Trustee Emeritus and alum. Frederick Wiseman, filmmaker, documentarian, and theater director, could not be in attendance and was unable to receive his honorary degree.
