Boston University Marsh Chapel is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its dedication throughout the 2025-2026 academic year with a series of special events and a new release of President Daniel L. Marsh’s book The Charm of the Chapel. We warmly invite all present and past members of the Marsh Chapel community to celebrate this significant achievement with us, as you are all part of our rich history.

This Chapel is art at its highest—art expressed in architecture, in painting, in sculpture, in stained glass, in line and form, in curve and color.
The Charm of the Chapel
By President Daniel L. Marsh
Do you know… Which historical figures appear in Marsh Chapel’s radiant stained glass windows? Or which documents were sealed inside the Chapel’s cornerstone? Or why three carved wooden figurines were chosen to grace the lectern?
Boston University president Daniel L. Marsh explained these details and more in a delightful volume titled The Charm of the Chapel, published in 1950 to commemorate the completion of the Chapel’s construction. As part of the celebration for Marsh Chapel’s 75th anniversary, the Chapel will republish President Marsh’s book, newly annotated and including an introduction by Dean Hill and spectacular new photographs of the Chapel’s stained glass windows and neo-Gothic architecture. We are excited to share this work with you as we recognize our community’s history and set a course for the next 75 years as “a heart for the heart of the city and a service in the service of the city.”
After the book is published in Fall of 2025, you may receive your copy by making a gift of $75 or more to the future Marsh Chapel 75th Anniversary Fund.
