Identifying Priorities in Aphasia Care: CBR to collaborate with NAA on PCORI Awarded Research

Funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), the Boston University Center for Brain Recovery (CBR) will be partnering with the National Aphasia Association (NAA) and Nova Southeastern University (NSU) on an initiative to identify the most significant impacts faced by people with aphasia and establish research priorities for the future.

This research, titled “Building capacity for patient-centered CER (clinical effectiveness research) in stroke-related aphasia”, focuses on developing a “core impact set”, or list of research priorities, that is directly informed by the lived experiences of people with post-stroke aphasia. With the objective of effectively capturing the most pressing impacts on the everyday lives of people with aphasia, this work will inform the next wave of research efforts and include people with aphasia, family members/caregivers, clinicians, and researchers.

CBR team members Dr. Swathi Kiran and Madeline Dunne will be providing infrastructural support to conduct this research in coordination with project lead Maura Silverman, Executive Director of the NAA, and fellow collaborator Dr. Jacqueline Hinckley, from NSU.
