Meet Kate Tumlin, a Tampa native studying History of Art & Architecture. We caught up with Kate to see how she is adjusting to Boston and enjoying  her program!

Please briefly introduce yourself, what’s your background, where are you from, and why did you study at BU GRS?

Hi! I’m Kate and I’m in the graduate program for the History of Art and Architecture. I’m from Tampa, Florida and I completed my undergrad degree at the University of South Florida.

Why did you choose to come to BU for your graduate degree?

I chose BU GRS for my graduate degree because of the variety of fields of study offered here in the art history program. This made BU stand out to me because not very many schools have a wide range of options, and I wanted to be able to pursue topics I haven’t had the chance to learn about before.

What are your favorite spots on the BU Campus?

My favorite spots on campus are the 808 Gallery, the Howard Thurman Center, and the College of Arts and Sciences building! I love how BU’s campus has a variety of architectural styles, which I think perfectly captures the history of the school.

What was your favorite part about attending BU and studying in the US?

My favorite part about BU is definitely the people I’ve met here so far. I moved to Boston not knowing anyone from here, but I have been able to get to know so many lovely people from both inside and outside the grad program.

How is life in Boston?

Like I mentioned before, I’m from Florida, so the change in weather has been really enjoyable for me so far- I can’t say I miss the heat and humidity too much. I’m hoping I won’t regret saying that when winter comes along, because I’ve never had to deal with snow before. Besides that, I really love living in Boston because there’s so many things to do!

What do you hope to do after you graduate?

After I graduate, I want to continue to pursue a career in curation. I love doing research in art history and the process of designing exhibits, so I think I would really enjoy working in a museum setting.
