Associate Professor of classical studies James Uden, who specializes in ancient literature, is the recipient of an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation New Directions Fellowship, which supports scholarship in the humanities. Uden’s upcoming book will discuss how literature, culture, and medicine intersected during the Roman Empire, and thus will help provide an understanding of the modern connection between them. He recently spoke to BU Research about this honor, his teaching style, and what draws him to this field of study.
