Carrie Preston, associate professor of English and director of the Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies (WGS) program, recently won BU’s 2015 United Methodist Church Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award. Her outstanding scholarly contributions to the fields of literary studies, gender studies, and dance earned her the high honor. Preston was also noted for her exceptional work in the classroom engaging and challenging her students.

Preston regularly teaches courses on modernist literature; feminist, gender, and queer theory; and modern drama and performance. She is the humanist on the teaching team for WGS 101: An Interdisciplinary Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies, the new “gateway” course for the WGS minor. She also teaches courses for the Graduate Certificate in WGS, and is currently writing a book titled, Learning to Kneel: Noh, Modernism, and the Pedagogies of Transnational Performance. This work considers the influence of Japanese noh theater on transnational modernism.

The Methodist Award is given each year to Boston University by the United Methodist Church to recognize distinguished scholars who are making their mark as effective and inspiring teachers. The award will be announced at the inaugural Celebration of Teaching, Research, and Scholarship, to be held Tuesday, May 5, 4-6 PM at the Burke Club Room at Agganis Arena.
