Pascual Restrepo, associate professor of economics, primarily focuses his research on the impact of technological advancements on labor markets. He has contributed significantly to our understanding of how automation affects employment, wage inequality, and economic growth.

One of his recent publications: “Demographics and Automation,” delves into the influence of industrial robots on the United States labor landscape. As he has shared with CAS before, Prof. Restrepo does not agree with simplistic debates over whether robots and AI will entirely replace humans. Instead, he believes that “the critical question is whether these new roles will generate enough demand for workers with diverse skills or will they only benefit a select few with highly sought-after skills.”

Restrepo will be one of the distinguished speakers at the upcoming Gitner Family Lecture: What does it mean to be Human in the world of AI, offering his insights into the evolving relationship between humanity and technology.
