In recognition of a highly successful career thus far, Professor of Psychology Michael Hasselmo was recently elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers. This year, 539 members have been awarded this honor by AAAS because of their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications. AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society, and publisher of the journal, Science.

Professor Hasselmo was honored for “distinguished contributions in the fields of computational and experimental neuroscience, particularly as applied to understanding memory functions of the cortex and hippocampal region.” He is currently principal investigator on a $7.5 million grant project from the U.S. Office of Naval Research studying rats’ direction-finding process in order to design smarter direction-finding robots.
