Join us on March 26th for another installment of our Israel Studies event series, featuring Dr. Roi Sabar.
This talk investigates the role of military architecture in state formation process. Focusing on Qeren Naftali (Khirbet el-Harrawi) near the Israeli-Lebanese border, it examines two fortresses: one built by the Hasmoneans and the other planned by the Zionists. By juxtaposing these two structures, the strategic significance of the hill is highlighted, as well as the distinct strategies employed by each polity in shaping the landscape.
Roi Sabar is an archaeologist specializing in classical archaeology of the southern Levant, and northern Israel in particular. His primary research interests revolve around socio-political processes and interactions as they are recorded and reflected in the material culture vis-à-vis historical accounts.
