CAS Communications Internship

The College of Arts & Sciences Communications Office hires interns each semester to help our team tell stories, publicize achievements, and build community within our diverse liberal arts school. 

CAS Communications is currently offering internships in four categories: social media, email newsletters/web intern, graphic design, and video/ digital content creation. 

The internship is open to current sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduate students and graduate students in all BU schools. Candidates should have strong samples demonstrating skills in their desired internship area. Previous internship experience preferred. 

During the summer, interns may work up to 20 hours/ week. During the fall and spring, students are expected to work 8 to 12 hours a week. 

Applicants must send a resume, cover letter, and non-academic writing samples (news or feature stories or personal essays)/video samples, as well as a recommendation from a faculty member and/or former employer. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Social Media Intern

Responsibilities:

  • execute social media content for the college: build social media posts from brand templates, write captions for social media posts, develop new ideas for fresh social content
  • Coordinate with the communications specialist to upload content into Sprout Social and build out the social media content calendar 
  • Collaborate with the video intern to brainstorm and execute video content
  • Identify and seek out members of the BU community to feature

Requirements:

  • Previous relevant internship experience a plus 
  • Ability to generate new and creative ideas
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and work independently
  • Ability to meet project deadlines
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Keen eye for detail and sense of style, in word and image
  • Interest in branding and graphic creation
  • Experience with Canva a plus
  • Photo/ graphic design skills a plus

Newsletter/Web Content Intern

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and aggregate news and events for the college
  • Post news and stories on internal and external websites 
  • Create and build college newsletters for various audiences (undergraduate, faculty & staff, all-college)
  • Coordinate with the communications specialist to build an editorial calendar and assist with email requests from various departments across the college

Requirements:

  • Previous relevant internship experience a plus 
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and work independently
  • Ability to meet project deadlines
  • Keen eye for detail and sense of style, in word and image
  • Experience with writing engaging content
  • Experience with newsletter management platforms such as MailChimp a plus

    Video/Content Creator Intern

    Responsibilities:

    • execute video content for the college: shoot and edit content, understand trends, and develop new ideas for fresh social content
    • Create content for both the college’s YouTube Channel and TikTok/Instagram Reels
    • Coordinate with the communications specialist and social media intern to build out the social media content calendar 
    • Identify and seek out members of the BU community to feature

    Requirements:

    • Previous relevant internship experience a plus 
    • Ability to generate new and creative ideas
    • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
    • Ability to take direction and work independently
    • Ability to meet project deadlines
    • Knowledge of social media platforms
    • Experience with Adobe Premiere and CapCut a plus
    • Experience with TikTok and YouTube a plus
    • Experience editing both horizontal and vertical video a plus

    Graphic Design Intern

    Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to the creation of compelling and bold designs that align with the college’s brand guidelines and engage our audiences
    • Design digital marketing materials including email templates, website assets, social media assets, and print posters to promote college events and programs. 
    • Develop concepts based on notes, presentations and other provided materials  
    • Understand project requirements and concepts and problem solve through design 
    • Use various techniques to create drafts, models, and final concepts 
    • Collaborate with design lead and other team members to finalize and deliver projects 
    • Use feedback from other designers and drivers to improve 

    Requirements:

    • Creativity skills and problem-solving aptitude

    • Strong time management and multitasking abilities

    • Understanding of branding and direct marketing principles 
    • Understanding of current trends on social platforms 
    • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva
    • A strong design portfolio that reflects creativity & understanding of basic design principles
