Boston University Prof. Graham Wilson, professor and chair-elect of the Department of Political Science in the College of Arts & Sciences, has been named president of the British Politics Group of the American Political Science Association (APSA). Wilson’s will serve as the group’s president for two years starting in September.
The British Politics Group (BPG) is a nonpartisan research organization within the APSA dedicated to improving the development, communication, and dissemination of knowledge about British politics. The BPG was founded in 1975 specifically to encourage the study of British politics in North America and consists primarily of academic political scientists in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries, notably Canada and Australia. The group’s activities include sponsorship of panels on British politics at the APSA’s annual meeting, quarterly newsletters, an annual bibliography of books on British politics published in the United Kingdom, and sponsorship of scholarly awards.
Wilson joined Boston University in 2007 having taught previously at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Essex in the UK. He is currently the Department of Political Science’s Director of Graduate Studies and will become its chair in September.
Wilson has published nine books and has authored numerous articles and chapters in edited volumes. His work has focused primarily on interest groups (particularly business) and their relationship with government and policymaking. He has also published extensively on the relationship between bureaucrats and politicians. Wilson’s teaching, like his research, crosses the customary divide between the study of American politics and of comparative politics. He has PhD and BA degrees from Oxford University, and a MA degree in United States Government and Politics from the University of Essex, UK.
