In October 2018, the university announced plans for the new, 17-floor BU Data Sciences Center to accommodate the growing popularity of the computer and data science field. It is the first major teaching center on the Charles River Campus in over 50 years. The structure, which will be built in between the College of Arts & Sciences and Sargent College on Commonwealth Avenue, will include the mathematics and statistics and computer science departments and the Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science & Engineering.

The Data Sciences Center will help BU grow as a leading, urban interdisciplinary research institution. Construction is proposed to start in spring 2019. You can read more about plans for the building and its impact on campus on BU Today.
