2024 Latinx Senior Ceremony–BU’s First
Andrew Ciali (CAS’24), with his mom, Rosa Ciali (right), and dad, Michael Ciali (left), at the first Latinx Senior Ceremony, held May 16 at the GSU Ballroom. Ciali’s family is holding his sarape, or stole, to imbue it and its owner with their love, good wishes, and support, before putting it back on the graduate. Raul Fernandez (COM’00, Wheelock’16), a Wheelock College senior lecturer, was the guest speaker at the ceremony. CAS academic advisor Julia Martorell (CAS’19) told those assembled: “We are bringing the community together to honor the accomplishments of the individual graduates and to thank those that came before us and sacrificed so much to help us get to this point in our lives. Many of our graduates will be first-generation students, many of them come from immigrant families, so we want to recognize the collective effort of our families and chosen families.”
