By kconnors (29)

Meaningful Advising: Connecting Learning with Identity and Career Exploration

Linda Wells, Special Assistant to the Provost
High Impact Practices (NSSE & Gallup-Purdue Report): What does the data tell us about the 21st century student, employer, [...]& workplace, and what are the challenges for the academy?

Jeannette Guillemin, Assistant Director, School of Visual Arts, College of Fine Arts
Cultural Entrepreneurship—How Advisors Can Promote an Entrepreneurial Mindset.

Paul Lipton, Research Associate Professor for Neuroscience, Biology, and Psychological Brain Sciences
The Answer is the Question: Faculty role in connecting learning to career.

Kimberly Delgizzo, Director, Center for Career Development
Active Engagement Beyond Referral: Strategies for advisors and the CCD to form partnerships.

Recent research states that there is a gap between students’ assessment of themselves as being ready for the workplace and their employers’ perspective. This session will foster discussion on how to move students beyond seeing their education as transactional. The panelists will focus on approaches to engage meaningfully with our students in order for them to appreciate and relate their learning to their identity and career exploration. You will have the opportunity to participate in round table discussions and report to all symposium attendees your key ideas and findings, which will result in tangible takeaways that may be implemented immediately in your current advising practice.
