Sara Hockett Co-organizer “I’m a fourth year PhD student in the Linguistics Department at Boston University. My research focuses on phonological acquisition and comparing L2 adult learners based on how they are affected by the phonotactic rules in their L1. I am currently investigating ASL phonology, specifically looking at how a syllable is constructed and changes based on signing context.”

Becca Wheeler Co-organizer “I’m a fifth year PhD student in the Linguistics department at Boston University. My interests broadly include phonetics, phonology, and second language acquisition, with more specific focus on the experiences of second language learners in and out of the classroom. My current research includes work on the acoustic correlates and signaling of foreigner-directed speech (also known as non-native directed speech), as well as the development of web-based language learner tools for Iñupiaq, an endangered Inuit language spoken in Alaska.”

Xinhan Jiang Co-organizer “I’m a third year PhD student in the Linguistics Department at Boston University. I’m interested in syntax and syntax-semantics interface, as well as psycholinguistics that uses experimental evidence to test and refine syntactic theories. My current research includes the syntax of wh-coordination in Mandarin Chinese and the OV/VO word order variation in the Wu dialect of Chinese.”
