Mentoring Circles Coordinator
Description of Internship Project: BU’s BEST is a professional career development program at Boston University for PhD student and postdocs in the biomedical sciences. The primary role of the intern is to coordinate recently updated mentoring circles. The mentoring circles will be comprised of 6-8 trainees each with 1-3 mentors. Each circle will correlate with the career tracks as outlined in the BU’s BEST program (law, research, communications, teaching, business, and policy).
Responsibilities of the intern: (including attendance to staff meetings, policies and other expectations)
- Soliciting local professionals to act as mentors for each of the circles.
- Advertising program to BU biomedical trainees
- Acting as the point person for any questions
- Coordinating opening and closing sessions
- Meeting with the Program Director weekly to discuss the progress, talk about any issues, answer question, and discuss program management as a career path.
- Evaluating the circles at mid-term and end of program for continuous evaluation
- Other responsibilities as they come up
Description of Deliverable at Completion of Internship:
- Complete data set on evaluation
- Complete a 1 page write up on mentoring circles and evaluation major themes (including next steps, suggestions for improvement, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities, etc)
- 1 page write up on intern’s personal career development with respect to program management (to include career aspirations prior to work, if those ideas have changed, what are career development next steps)
Evaluation of the deliverable:
During internship director will provide feedback in weekly meeting. At the end of the internship, director will provide verbal feedback of performance and written recommendation, if requested.
Mentor / Reporting for the intern:
Report directly to program director

- Create and deliver programing
- Understand and apply evaluation techniques
- Create formal corporate communication
- Have a complete understanding of what program management is and be able to evaluate if it is a good career fit.
Requested Qualifications of Intern: (i.e. specific expertise in certain research area, specific experience with certain skill such as research or data analysis, excel modeling, valuation, etc):
- Quick learner
- Desire to learn new ways to use transferable skills
- Excellent written and oral communications
- Ability to reach out to professionals and network effectively
- Interest in program management.
Internship Start and Duration:
Desired start date: as soon as possible
Duration: 6 months with possibility to extend.
Desired Time Commitment:
Part-time:5-10 hrs/wk
Compensation: No
Can work be performed remotely? Yes most can be performed with access to email. Intern will be asked to meet with director weekly and intern will need to be at various events.
