Schedule
2:30pm-3:10pm – Band Room opens (300W Babcock St). “Open time” (i.e. You do not have to come right at 2:30pm) to get your instrument, shirt, “e-flip” (the lyre which will hold your music) and mingle with fellow alumni! Just be ready to play by 3:10pm.

3:15pm-4:15pm – Fun rehearsal where we go through pre-game/period traditions and a few “new/old” pep tunes before heading over to the arena. This is important to attend as it’s where we go through the tunes together before playing in public.

5:15pm – All-Alumni Pep Band Call Time in Agganis Arena, Section 118 (Warmed-up, set up in Section 118)
6:00pm – GAME T-I-M-E!!!!!!
Post-Game – All alumni are required to turn in their individual equipment back at the Band Room (300W Babcock St.). Afterward, head on over to Sunset Cantina where we will have a private area just for BUBAN, with heavy appetizers provided! Drinks on individuals.

Event Information
Personnel
This band will be open to alumni only. This also gives the students a well-deserved break from playing and a chance to show ’em how alumni get it done! We encourage any and all alumni to come play – BU Bands wants all hands on deck! It’s okay if you are rusty on your instrument, we still want you to come!
Uniform
We’re continuing with the All-Alumni Pep Band shirts that started in 2016! If you do not own one, it will be a one-time $20 fee for the shirt, and the shirt will be your uniform and ticket to all future All-Alumni Pep Band games. Please indicate your desire to order a t-shirt in the webform below. A $20 payment will need to be submitted
- *NEW* Directly to BU Bands using a credit card
- Via mail-in check (Payable to “BU Bands”)
- Cash at All-Alumni Pep Band check-in – No change will be facilitated. If mailing a check or cash, please address to:
Sharif Mamoun
Boston University Bands
855 Commonwealth Avenue
Boston, MA 02215
You may pick up your shirt at the All-Alumni Pep Band event when you check-in. Blue jeans on the bottom. If any long sleeves or undershirts are worn, we ask you to wear white for a consistent look.
Instruments
If you would like to borrow an instrument, it is first come, first serve so please register sooner than later (We will notify you if we cannot provide you with an instrument). If you are bringing your own mouthpiece (Specifically Low Brass), but borrowing a BU instrument, please specify large or smallbore to ensure you receive the correct horn that fits your mouthpiece on your webform submission. Instrumentation will include instruments from previous iterations of the BU Pep Band – If you do not see an option in the webform, please let us know and we will add it in!
Please note if you are bringing your personal Clarinet, Saxophone, or Mellophone, you will need to ensure that your instrument has an attachment to hold a lyre. If it does not, you will be loaned a BU Instrument that will accommodate a lyre for your music or provided a music stand.
Equipment
Every alum will be loaned a standard lyre for your instrument plus a plastic lyre attachment called an “e-flip.” Your smartphone clips into the e-flip, and we read music off our phones now in PDF format. Note: Music is in a smaller format than the typical 6×9″ physical sheet. If you anticipate trouble reading your music on a smartphone, tablets are also acceptable (and a music stand will be provided to you). It is recommended that you arrive to the Band Room with a fully charged phone or tablet, and consider bringing a portable battery with you.
Every alum will need access to either a smartphone or tablet for viewing music. We will no longer be using the physical pep books. On the smart device, you will download an app called “FlipFolder” to read PDF music. You can switch between songs & instrument parts, zoom-in on the music, save your view settings for each tune, and even mark-up your parts and save them. The password to the BU Pep Band repertoire will be emailed to you at a later time.
Check-In
The Band Room will be left open to check-in and gather your instrument, shirt, etc. until game time at 6. Alumni are strongly encouraged to attend all parts of the day, but if you can only attend the game, please let us know in advance.
Food
We encourage you to come prepared or be prepared to eat following the game, as no food will be provided this year. You will be able to grab some food from Agganis Arena’s concession stand before the game and in-between periods.
Parking:
For more information on parking, please reference the BU Parking & Transportation Services website. BU Alumni may apply for discounted parking, but please note it takes up to 2 business days to process, so get your applications in early! The closest parking garage to the BU Band Room is Langsam Garage. There is also a parking lot underneath Agganis Arena, where the band will perform. (Please remember that all instruments and equipment must be returned to the BU Band Room following the game)
Frequently Asked Questions
I haven’t played my instrument recently, so do you really want me to participate in this?
Yes, absolutely! We have “strength in numbers,” so even if you’re rusty on your instrument, you’ll be playing ina big group that puts out a big sound. No worries at all. We’re more concerned with you having a great time playing at a BU Hockey game! This comes directly from Aaron Goldberg, Director of Athletic Bands!
Can I practice/view the music before game day?
Yes! With the new app to view music, closer to mid-December, when many of the students will leave for Winter Break, we will provide all registrants with instructions on how to download the app, how to access BU Bands music, and you will be able to begin practicing and getting ready for game day.
Who is going to participate in All-Alumni Pep Band?
While we cannot share private information publicly, we encourage you to ask and speak to your colleagues and peers – spread the word about the event!
I don’t think the BU Bands allows my instrument anymore in the BU Pep Band – am I able to play [insert instrument here]?
Yes! Please contact us at alumband@bu.edu – we may not have listed the instrument in the registration form, but BU Bands wants to make sure we are accommodating to any and all needs. For example, if you want to play a concert tuba sitting on a chair instead of a contra over your shoulder, we will do our best to accommodate your needs!
I bought a BU Bands Alumni Network shirt awhile ago, and I misplaced it/it does not fit me anymore. Can I order a new one?
Of course! We do ask that you pay for the shirt at $20/shirt, but we will be able to accommodate providing you with a new shirt if needed.
I was not part of BU Pep Band in undergrad, but part of the BU Bands program in a different ensemble. Can I participate?
Depending on the ensemble and instrument you played as a student, we would love to have you, but need to make sure it fits the instrumentation for pep band. Please email us at alumband@bu.edu and let’s talk!
Any additional questions, please contact alumband@bu.edu.
