There are 4 comments on POV: Why We Need a Blended Model of Education for Our Children

  1. I find this very interesting and a necessary move for public schools. I worked as a teacher and administrator in NC public schools for 17 years. I value our public schools, but I don’t think they will survive without some significant changes, including flexibility. I have been considering the hybrid model that you discussed for some time and would be interested in further research.

Many families want this flexibility, which also offers opportunities for school systems. Scheduling flexibility could help with budget struggles and the need to construct new school facilities and reduce transportation expenses and capital budgets.

Finally, the accelerating pace of AI and the potentially major impact on our education system make this an opportune time to consider changes.

  2. >>Perhaps the last remaining American core value is the right to our own “truth”<<

Putting the word "truth" in quotes is the problem. People may canonize their own opinions but that doesn't make it truth. How can people who believe in truth have their children educated in schools that substitute their own subjective perceptions for empirical facts?

  3. I think, its wrong to teach kids values. That is parents job. School should teach kids knowledge and skills. Politics, religions, opinionated influancers should be out.

    1. This is probably the only way public education can be saved. Public schools need to get back to the basic task of teaching kids the 3 Rs.*

*Whoever came up with that acronym needs a spelling lesson themselves! ;-)
